Sometimes the right carpet is the one that does not exist yet. True Knot makes custom carpets and rugs to your size, your palette and your design, woven by hand in India by some of the finest hands in the country.
What can be made to order
- Construction. Hand knotted, hand tufted or handloom.
- Size. Any size from 2 x 3 ft to 10 x 14 ft, made for your room.
- Shape. Rectangular, round or irregular.
- Colour. Any colour, with a palette drawn from your own: your walls, your upholstery, a fabric or a painting you want the carpet to sit with.
- Design. One of our existing designs adapted to your room, or a design that is yours and no one else's.
- Material. New Zealand wool, silk, bamboo silk, viscose, Tencel, linen, jute and natural, undyed fibres.
How a bespoke carpet comes together
- Start the conversation. Visit the True Knot showroom or send us an enquiry with your room dimensions, a few photographs and anything you would like the carpet to relate to.
- Agree the design. We settle the size, construction, material, colours and design with you. You see a digital render of your carpet, choose your colours from our yarn colour poms, and can see woven samples. There is no extra charge for any of this.
- Confirm the order. A custom piece requires an advance deposit of 50% to begin production. We confirm the lead time and the production start date with you in writing.
- Making. As a guide, hand tufted and handloom carpets take 4 to 6 weeks, and hand knotted carpets take 3 to 4 months. Lead time starts once we have confirmed your order and received the advance deposit.
- Delivery. The remaining 50% is due before dispatch. Delivery is free within India.
Good to know before you order
- Bespoke pieces are made specifically for you, so they cannot be returned or exchanged for a change of mind.
- You may cancel before production begins for a full refund of your deposit. After production has begun, only the actual costs already incurred on your piece are deducted, up to the amount of the deposit. The full terms are in our Cancellation Policy.
- Made-to-order carpets carry the same cover against making faults as our ready pieces. See the Warranty.
- Handmade carpets vary slightly in colour, size and pattern from one piece to the next. That variation is part of the making, not a fault.
Questions about custom carpets
How long does a custom carpet take?
Hand tufted and handloom carpets take about 4 to 6 weeks. Hand knotted carpets take about 3 to 4 months, because every knot is tied by hand. The time runs from the day your order is confirmed and the advance deposit is received. Delivery after dispatch usually takes 1 to 3 business days within Delhi NCR and 4 to 8 business days elsewhere in India.
How much does a bespoke carpet cost?
The price depends on size, construction and material. A hand knotted silk carpet costs considerably more than a hand tufted wool one of the same size. Tell us your room and budget and we will suggest what is possible.
What sizes and shapes can you make?
Any size from 2 x 3 ft to 10 x 14 ft, in any shape, including round and irregular outlines.
Will I see the design before it is made?
Yes. We prepare a digital render, you choose colours from our yarn colour poms, and woven samples are available. None of this is charged.
Can you make one of your existing designs in a different size or colour?
Yes. Many bespoke orders begin with a piece from our hand knotted, hand tufted or handloom collections, resized or recoloured for the room.
Do you deliver custom carpets outside Delhi?
Yes, we deliver across India, and delivery is free. We do not ship internationally at present.
