True Knot is a carpet showroom on MG Road, New Delhi, founded by husband and wife Baruni and Arjit Chopra. We show handmade carpets and rugs, hand knotted, hand tufted and handloom, and we make custom pieces for homes that need something of their own.
Why we started
We started True Knot with a simple belief: a home should feel warm, grounded, and truly lived in. For centuries, carpets have brought that feeling into Indian homes.
At True Knot, we carefully bring together some of the finest carpets Indian weavers have to offer, and create custom pieces when you have something more personal in mind. By choosing one, you bring home a piece of Indian craft, and help keep alive a tradition this country has carried for generations.
What you will find here
Every carpet we show is made by hand in India. The range covers three ways of making, each suited to a different room and a different budget.
- Hand knotted carpets, tied one knot at a time on the loom in wool, silk, viscose and blends. The slowest construction, and the one that ages best.
- Hand tufted carpets, dense wool rugs worked by hand across a frame, made for rooms that get used every day.
- Handloom carpets, woven low and even in wool and Tencel, made to sit quietly under a room.
Within these sit our own collections. Lumen is a set of plain Tencel rugs whose colour shifts with the light. Poetry in Wash is a group of hand tufted wool carpets with soft, watercolour grounds.
Woven in Bhadohi
Our carpets are woven in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, the heart of India's carpet weaving belt. A carpet passes through many hands there before it reaches a room.
- Wool. It begins in softness. For most of our pieces, that means New Zealand wool.
- Colour. Yarns are developed in nuanced tones long before the first knot takes shape.
- Making. Skilled hands translate colour and composition into knot, pile and surface.
- Floor. Each piece is finished by hand and brought to the True Knot showroom, ready to become part of a room.

Sometimes the right carpet is the one that does not exist yet. A size made for your room, a palette drawn from your own, a design that is yours and no one else's. Our bespoke service takes a carpet from first idea to finished piece.
